ISLAMABAD, Aug 6: Safeerullah Khan and Yasir Butt scored straight games victories on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the CAS National Junior Squash Championship in Peshawar.

Yasir’s victim in the under-19 category was qualifier Saqib Zia whom he defeated 9-4, 9-5, 9-2 while Safeerullah outplayed Atique Butt 9-2, 9-2, 9-0.

Also earning quarterfinal tickets were Maqbali Khan who knocked out Tariq Aziz 9-4, 9-1, 9-3, Khalid Atlas, a 9-2, 9-2, 9-3 winner against Adnan Gul and Rizwan Ahmed who beat Muhammad Naveed 9-7, 9-0, 9-5.

Others going through were Naveed Nasir who had draw all his energies in squeezing past Faisal Zaman 9-0, 9-6, 2-9, 2-9, 9-7, Shah Nawaz outpointing Aurangzeb 9-4, 9-3, 9-2 and Basit Ashfaq completing the quarterfinals line-up with a 9-3, 9-6, 9-4 victory over Sajid Khan.

In the under-17 age group, Farhan Mahboob and Bilal Zaman made the last eight as did Majeed Hussain, Haider Jamal and Aqib Hanif, all of whom were straight games winners over their respective rivals. But Muhammad Waseem of Punjab was extended to four games by Ali Hassan before winning 9-6, 10-9, 5-9, 9-5. However Adil Atlas had an even tougher match against Fahim Gul who fought tooth and nail before being beaten 9-10, 9-1, 9-3, 3- 9, 10-8. Farzan Rashid in contrast had it easy against Owais Amin, picking up a 9-4, 9-3, 9-2 win.
