Pakistan climbs one spot in ICC ODI rankings on back of Champions Trophy wins

Pakistan have climbed one spot to number 7 in the latest ICC Men's One Day International (ODI) rankings on the back of a series of stunning victories against England, Sri Lanka and South Africa in the Champions Trophy.

Pakistan has now reached the final of the tournament, where they will play against the winner of the second semi-final of the tournament between India and Bangladesh.

Pakistan, which a couple of years ago was struggling to maintain its spot in the tournament ─ which features top eight sides ─ now rests above Sri Lanka in the rankings, with a score of 93 ─ the same as the Sri Lankan team ─ in fewer matches.

South Africa tops the rankings, updated on Wednesday, with Australia and India on its heels. England is ranked at number 4 while New Zealand and Bangladesh occupy the 5th and 6th spots.

Hassan Ali, Pakistan's only bowler to appear in Top 20 bowler rankings for ODIs is expected to jump a few spots following an update in individual players' rankings which were last updated on June 12.

There is this one thing about the Pakistan team members which I dont understand. It is their habit of praising God in a post-match presentation each time they win. Which makes it sound as if God is behind the defeat of the losing team playing against Pakistan, and the players were on auto-mode. This also, makes it sound like, as if each loss of the Pakistan cricket team is some kind of divine punishment. I would like to think that God wants the best team to win - and that it is up to the players to put in the best effort. Granted, the best of players and performances may be divinely inspired. In which case, seeing is believing. There is surely no need for any words when it come to that.

Proud of my boys in Green! It's going to be a tough task to beat India in the final.I will keep my fingers crossed.I have no doubt that we can win on Sunday but I am also realistic enough to understand that right now India is a very strong team.as always best of luck for the final. I will be watching.win or lose I will support my Gang Green!

@emad, The Pakistani players if you notice give almost the same interview all the time. It appears as if somebody has written few lines for them and they have simply crammed it and they use it on all occasions with just few minor changes related to the new situation. They completely ignore one key aspect of modern day sports which is interpersonal skill and they hardly care to develop that and it is for that reason they are not taken seriously across the globe for their intellect. For example if you observe Umar Akmal, he is still saying the same set of lines what I remember he said on few occasions in 2009 and 2010 and 2011 and so on. Funny it is but true. Not many cricketers are decently educated but most of them still carry themselves well in front of the media. Key examples in that regard are Tendulkar, Kohli,Sehwag, Steve Smith, Warner, Dhawan, Anderson, KP and many more. They have got almost no to very poor education but still they play well in front of the media.
