LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday once again turned down a request by cricketer Khalid Latif for staying Anti-corruption Tribunal’s (ACT) proceedings against him in connection with the PSL spot fixing charges.

However, a division bench headed by Justice Shahid Karim sought a detailed reply from the Attorney General of Pakistan on intra court appeal (ICA) filed by the cricketer, challenging dismissal of his writ petition by a single bench and the proceedings of the ACT constituted by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Advocate Badar Alam argued on behalf of the appellant that the tribunal had no jurisdiction to investigate the spot-fixing charges, stating the constitution of the tribunal under the PCB anti-corruption code was illegal as its rules were not notified in Pakistan gazette.

The PCB chairman had no power to constitute the tribunal, the lawyer further said, asking the bench to set aside decision of the single bench and also suspend the proceedings of the tribunal until final outcome of the appeal.

The PCB counsel on his part told the bench since reply of the federal government was yet to be filed, the court should not stay the impugned proceedings without hearing its point of view.

The bench denied stay to the appellant and adjourned the hearing until July 10 with direction to the AGP to submit a reply.

The bench during one of the previous hearings had also rejected the same plea of the appellant.

Khalid and four other players were charged with breaching the PCB’s anti-corruption code during the second addition of the PSL held in Dubai.
