HYDERABAD, Aug 6: A large number of people of Qasimabad, under the banner of the Sindh Tarqqi Pasand Party, observed a hunger strike and staged a sit-in on the Naseem Nagar Road for five hours.

They were protesting against the accumulation of dirty water in the taluka, absence of medical facilities, non-regularization of kutcha abadis and indifferent attitude of the government towards the residents.

The protesters included STPP leaders Muzaffar Kalhoro, Mehboob Abro and Shaukat Abro, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam leader Azam Jehangiri, Federation of Qasimabad president Ishaq Detho and leaders of other social welfare organizations.

Later, the protesters held a demonstration.

Speaking on the occasion, STPP chairman Dr Qadir Magsi lashed out at the Sindh government, health department officials and other government functionaries for not resolving problems being faced by Qasimabad residents.

He said the relief announced by the government was not sufficient to rehabilitate rain and flood victims and demanded that Rs15 billion should be announced for Sindh to cover the losses. He further demanded that Rs1 billion should provided to Qasimabad to restore the infrastructure.
