ISLAMABAD: A day after former interior minister Rehman Malik rejected an accusation by WikiLeaks that the United States had been provided access to the Nadra database, the authority endorsed his position.

According to WikiLeaks, the National Database and Registration Authority shared its data with the United States in 2011. On Thursday Mr Malik denied the allegation.

In a statement on Friday, Nadra said it had a strong internal security control mechanism that prevents any individual from “permitting to or causing to share” the database. “The authority has never compromised on the security of citizens’ data and no outsourcing was ever done at the expense of national security,” Nadra said.
