QUETTA, Aug 5: Balochistan Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal President Maulana Mohammad Khan Sherani said on Tuesday that the resignation of Governor Abdul Quadir was not a result of any deal between the government and the MMA.

“I think it is the result of some internal arrangements of the government and the governor has been asked to resign from his office,” Maulana Sherani told Dawn over telephone from Zhob while commenting on the resignation.

He said the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal had not made any demand regarding change of the province’s governor. “Gen Quadir was very good for Balochistan and was better than the previous governors,” he said.

Maulana Sherani said Gen Quadir was an experienced officer, who belonged to Balochistan and was aware of the province’s problems and issues.

He denied the rumours that he was offered the post of governor.

However, the MMA’s senior provincial minister Maulana Abdul Wasay said that after the acceptance of the resignation, the governor should be appointed from the alliance.

“After the resignation, the governor’s post is the MMA’s right because Chief Minister Jam Mohammed Yousaf is from the Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-i-Azam),” Maulana Wasay said.

He said it was the responsibility of Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali to help the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal in getting its right.

However, he said that so far no offer had been made to the MMA in this regard.

Replying to a question, the minister said that the reason of the resignation was not known.
