NTNs for companies

Published August 6, 2003

ISLAMABAD, Aug 5: The CBR has decided to issue National Tax Numbers (NTNs) to all companies registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan as a move to broaden the tax base.

Out of the 42,185 companies registered with the SECP, only 18,253 companies have so far been issued NTNs. Of these total NTNs holders, the tax returns were submitted by only 11,578 companies.

A senior official at the CBR told Dawn on Tuesday the CBR would provide complete information regarding the existing NTNs of the companies to the SECP for updating their profiles.

The official said the SECP following having these information would start a drive zone-wise to check the physical presence of those companies that have not opted for de-registration.

During the drive, the official said, those companies which have not got any NTN would be made bound to obtain it and submit annual returns with the tax department.
