ISLAMABAD, Aug 4: In the wake of torrential rains and floods in the country, the Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has postponed his proposed visit to Saudi Arabia.
According to an official announcement, this visit would now be rescheduled with the consultations of both the governments.
Due to continuing bad weather and heavy rain in the country, the proposed visit of prime minister has been postponed.
Earlier, Foreign Office spokesman Masood Khan told reporters here at the weekly briefing, that the visit has been postponed.
To a number of questions, he said, the decision has been taken in view of the great natural calamity that has hit the country.
He said since the disaster has not subsided, the prime minister has decided to postpone his visit to Saudi Arabia.
About PM’s proposed visit to the United States, which was cancelled prior to US led attack on Iraq, Mr Khan said, no decision has yet been taken.
APPEAL FOR DONATIONS: The prime minister has appealed to the nation and international community to come forward and generously contribute towards the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund, specially created for the calamity hit areas of Sindh and Balochistan.
Mr Jamali met a number of delegates and parliamentarians from calamity hit areas.
While talking to the delegates the prime minister assured them that the government was making all out efforts to give relief to the victims of flood despite financial constraints.
However, Mr Jamali said, the government resources alone were not enough to cover the losses caused by this colossal calamity and therefore public and donor agencies support would also be needed.
The prime minister said that our people have always stood steadfast during the time of trial and have extended helping hand to their fellows in distress.—APP
