Swaraj promises to provide visa to ailing Pakistani baby

HYDERABAD: Tensions between India and Pakistan may be escalating but that has not stopped India’s Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj from helping a Pakistani bring his two-and-a-half-year-old baby to India for treatment.

Ken Sid, a Pakistani national, reached out to Ms Swaraj for a medical visa as his son has a heart complication which could not be treated in Pakistan.

“He is my son. He does not even know what is happening between India and Pakistan,” Ken tweeted to drive home the point that an innocent child should not be deprived of treatment.

On Thursday, Ms Swaraj reacted to the plea and said: “No, This child will not suffer. Please contact Indian High Commission in Pakistan. We will give the medical visa.”

“It is heartening to see humanity prevailing despite many differences. Thank you for your efforts. Humanity prevails! God bless everyone,” the child’s father tweeted after a large number of Indians urged the minister to consider his plea.

Anyone who refuses to talks for solving problems of Kashmir is part of the problem. The irony of this story is that Pakistan, which boasts itself as a nuclear power, a country of over 100 million population does not have the capabilities to do a routine heart surgery on a child. I live in the US. I see so many Pakistani doctors working here, it seems no one is back in their home country.

See the difference here, India granted visa for treatment immediately and hopefully Indian doctors will save the life of Pakistani nation. Where Pakistan did not allow Mother of Kulbhushan Jadav to meet her son & even denied counselor access to him which was requested many times and wants to hang him without fair trial. We are really proud of Sushma Swaraj Ji for quick action for saving life of Pakistani baby and making great efforts to provide justice to Kulbhushan Jadav & his family.

As an Indian, I think India must give medical visas to Pakistanis. It's not right to deny a patient of medical care. We can understand the visa ban for Pak sportspersons and actors. But the patients from any country including Pakistan must get a visa.

FM Sushma Swaraj gets many such messages from both Indians and foreigners every day seeking help. Generally most of the requests get a favorable response which makes this lady very popular and ensures she gets flooded with even more such requests. Who can deny the request on behalf of a small child needing urgent treatment. The poor cannot afford to take their children to UK/USA for medical treatment because the costs are too high. Good gesture from the Indian FM.

A good face of humanism by Swaraj. Both nations form part of undivided India, in spite of all enmity there is connection of souls. But I wander one thing China being a strategic partner and nearer to Pakistan, and China having better medical infrastructure can provide better medical service than India. Whether PAK authority talked to China on this issue.

Nothing surprising that the medical visa was issued. India or Indians do not have any problems with the people of Pakistan. If it was not for the governments at loggerheads with each other, we may not even need visas to walk across the borders any number of times.
