ISLAMABAD, Aug 4: More rains are expected within the next 24 hours in most parts of the country, the Met office here said on Monday.

“With a heat low lying over northern Balochistan, there are chances of more rains there during the next 24 hours. Similarly, scattered rains and thunderstorm are expected over upper Punjab up to Faisalabad, Bahawalpur division as well as upper Sindh and Kashmir,” officials at the Met office told Dawn.

“There are also chances of isolated rains in lower Sindh, especially in Thatta and Badin, the areas worst hit by recent heavy monsoon rains and floods,” they added.

Over the last 24 hours, Sialkot was again lashed by heavy downpour as the city received 140mm rain. So far, Sialkot has received almost 700mm rain during the current monsoon season.

Balakot received 60mm, Jhang 45mm, Bannu 43mm and Mianwali 35mm of rain. Light showers were also experienced in Islamabad (10mm), Muzafarabad (7mm), Faisalabad (7mm) and Murree (4mm).

The conditions in the federal capital remained overcast for most part of the day with sun shinning brightly for some time in the afternoon. The Met office has predicted more rains during the night and in the afternoon on Tuesday.

Thick clouds started converging over the city towards the evening and hung low over the Margallas, which have become emerald green because of abundant rains and almost no bush fires this season.

There were a couple of incidents of isolated fires in the beginning of summer but since the start of monsoon season, the Margallas seem to be revitalized with green cover hiding the man-made scars on its face.

At times people can experience the strange misty feeling with thick clouds hanging on the tops after a good spell of rain or at times the clouds hung so low that Margallas are completely blanketed.
