Motion filed against minister

LAHORE, Aug 4: Deputy opposition leader Rana Sanaullah Khan on Monday tabled a privilege motion against Agriculture Minister Arshad Lodhi for, what he alleged, attributing a wrong statement to the Quadi-i-Azam and thus misguiding the house.

He requested the chair to take up his motion he had submitted with the assembly secretariat just half-an-hour ago.

Law Minister Raja Basharat consulted Mr Lodhi before deciding that the government would not oppose if Mr Khan was allowed to read out his motion.

Mr Lodhi said he would, however, reply to the motion during the next session of the house.

Rana Sana said he had objected Mr Lodhi immediately when he had stated in the house a couple of days ago that the Quaid-i-Azam, while presiding over a PML meeting, had said in Faisalabad (then Lyallpur) in 1943 that he wanted to achieve the country to see greenery everywhere.

Quoting complete text of Mr Jinnah’s speech carried by a local Urdu daily, he said the Quaid used not even a single word about agriculture.

Rana Sana demanded that Mr Lodhi on behalf of the government should tender apology for falsely attributing a statement to the Quaid as well as desecrating the sanctity of the house and urged the chair to recommend his motion to the Privilege Committee or Law and Parliamentary Affairs Committee.

He also demanded the chair to give its ruling on misstatement from the floor of the house by a minister and framing of rules for preventing MPs from uttering unverifiable words.
