ISLAMABAD: Khawar Qureshi, who represented Pakistan at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at The Hague in Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav’s case, called on Attorney General of Pakistan Ashtar Ausaf Ali at his office on Monday and discussed the matter with him.

During the closed-door meeting, Mr Qureshi consulted the country’s top law officer on the compliance report and related documents that the Pakistani government is required to submit before the ICJ ahead of the next hearing.

Talking to media personnel after the meeting, Mr Qureshi expressed the confidence that the ICJ would neither release the spy nor acquit him.

He said that if India claimed victory over the ICJ’s temporary stay of Jadhav’s execution, it was their wishful thinking.

He said that the problem seemed to be that this case was more about political point-scoring than about the law.

Mr Qureshi is expected to give a briefing to a parliamentary panel on Tuesday and he also discussed certain aspects of the case with the AGP, the sources claimed.

The lawyer came under severe criticism in Pakistan after the ICJ stayed the Indian spy’s execution.

Mr Qureshi, however, suggested to the media to behave responsibly and give respect to Pakistani officials.

Jadhav was arrested on March 3, 2016, through a counter-intelligence operation in Balochistan’s Mashkel area for his involvement in espionage and sabotage activities against Pakistan.
