MUZAFFARGARH: The Khangarh police registered a case on Friday against a gang allegedly involved in rapping a college boy and shooting the footage of rape. The gang of seven people later blackmailed him into giving them cash.

Police said the first year student was gang rapped by seven people, of them three are identified.

The complainant, the father of the boy, said that his son told him that the accused lured him into a jungle and raped him. Later, they threatened him with uploading the footage on social media sites if he reported the matter to police.

The complainant said he came to know about the blackmailing when he found Rs500,000 missing from his home. When he grilled him, his son told him that he had given the money to the gang.

Police have yet to arrest the suspects.

Ramazan markets: The district government has set up eight daily Ramazan bazaars, six Sunday bazaars and 20 everyday dastarkhwans.

Talking to Dawn on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner Saif Anwar Jappa said 40 shopkeepers would provide daily-use kitchen items at these makeshift markets to public at subsidised rates.

He said as the district had 11 flour mills, one ghee mill and three sugar units, there would not be shortage of any of the commodity. Sources said a special monitoring team would check stockists.

In Muzaffargarh, 80 per cent of population lives in rural areas and small towns but these facilities are only for Muzaffargarh, Alipur and Jatoi cities. People of rural localities demanded that they be provided these facilities at their doorstep.

The DC said he would suggest some mobile points for small towns.
