LAHORE: Police on Sunday arrested the last of the six assailants who killed three men and injured two others in Mughalpura bazaar a decade ago.

Six men had opened fire on their alleged rivals in a bustling bazaar and escaped leaving three dead and two injured. During the past decade, five of the six killers had been arrested and handed down punishment. Two were awarded death penalty and two life imprisonment, while one was released over benefit of the doubt. However, he was later shot dead.

Mughalpura Circle Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Usman Haider said that the last remaining suspect Bahadur Khan and his five accomplices had killed three men and injured two others over a petty issue 10 years ago.

Ilyas Gujjar, Abbas Gujjar and Zahid Gujjar of Dus Baray Mian locality of Mughalpura were killed and Tahir and Ijaz injured in the incident, and a murder case under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act was registered against the attackers.

He said four of the six attackers were arrested and sentenced by the court and Khan, who belonged to Peshawar, was declared a proclaimed offender. The DSP said a police team continued tracking Khan and on Sunday received credible information that the suspect was present in Katchi Abadi.

He said a police team after receiving the tip conducted a raid at the hideout of the suspect and arrested him.
