HYDERABAD, Aug 3: Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah was paid tribute at a function organized by the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology on Saturday to mark the Madar-i-Millat year.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, noted educationist Prof Syed Qavi Ahmad recalled the services of Ms Jinnah in the Pakistan Movement.
He said her political acumen could be gauged from the fact that her brother Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah always consulted her before taking any major decision.
He said the Madar-i-Millat was always by the side of Quaid-i-Azam in the Pakistan Movement and, even after he passed away, she continued his mission.
Prof Ahmad said Fatima Jinnah believed in strengthening democracy and democratic institutions in the country.
In his presidential address, Prof Dr Abdul Ahad Abro, dean, faculty of engineering, hailed her for raising her voice for the rights of women.
Chand Bibi, Prof Mohammad Yaqoob Mughal and Dr Mujeebur Rehman Sehrai also lauded the services of Ms Jinnah.
A large number of university teachers, officials and students attended the function.
DRAUGHTSMEN: All Pakistan Technical Draughtsmen Federation chairman Hafiz Matloob Ahmad Chishti has regretted that retired employees are not being paid their pensions in accordance with the announcement of 15 per cent increase in pensions.
He said this at a meeting held here on Saturday to discuss problems being faced by technical staff.
Mr Chishti demanded that government employees should be paid house rent on the basis of their existing salaries and the old selection grade and move-over formula should be restored. He said employment quota should be reserved for children of retired employees.
HCCI: The Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry has extended the date for renewing membership up to Aug 15.
