KARACHI, Aug 3: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has formed a committee to monitor performance of different departments during cleanliness drive.

The committee is headed by EDO Health Dr Ali Nawaz Sheikh whereas senior officers of city government and Nazims of union councils are its members.

Dr Sheikh has convened a meeting of town municipal officers, DTOs (Parks) and chief sanitary inspectors on Monday at 11am in the conference room, Civic Centre.

Meanwhile, all the city government departments have chalked out their strategies and started preparing for the 10-day health and cleanliness drive.

On the city Nazim’s directives, emergency vaccination centres have been set up at 38 hospitals and dispensaries in the city which would work from 8am to 8pm. Vaccines for hepatitis-B, typhoid and dog/snake-bite have been made available to the centres.

Parks and Recreation Department will plant 23,000 saplings — 5,000 along Shahrah-i-Pakistan, 3,000 along Rashid Minhas Road, 5,000 along Sharea Faisal, 3,000 along University Road, 1,200 in Nazimabad, 1,000 along Korangi Road and 2,000 along Hawkesbay Road.

Gulberg Town has provided 200 pairs of long shoes and paid off dues to the staff assigned the task of draining out rainwater.

Cleanliness campaign in Saddar Town continued on Sunday as the Town Municipal Administration cancelled the weekly holiday. It got drains and nullahs cleared of rainwater and filth. Stagnant water accumulated on roads and streets was also flushed out.

A spokesman for the Saddar TMA said that its staff, under the supervision of Town Nazim Farooq Fariya and TMO Khalid Mehmood Sheikh, cleared rainwater from Kharadar, Mithadar, Haji Camp, Ghas Mandi, Empress Market, Shaheen Complex, Awan-i-Saddar Road, Civil Lines, Hijrat Colony, Rati Lines and Schon Circle areas in three days.

The spokesman said the work was in progress in Gulshan-i-Faisal, Tikri Colony, Railway Colony and Frere Road areas.

The Town Nazim has directed B&R department to complete road repair work on emergency basis.—PPI/APP
