KARACHI, Aug 2: The grounded oil ship “Tasman Spirit” is in a stable condition, a statement of the Karachi Port Trust said here on Saturday.

It said the position of the ship has not changed. The oil vessel is resting on its bottom with the stern slightly raised, in which position there is not much danger to its stability.

Regular sounding around the ship indicates that its position is constant, and it is not drifting or shifting.

Foreign consultants, who arrived here Saturday, have taken a look at the ship and the weather conditions. The 60,000-ton ship, Endeavour II, which is already off port Karachi, is not their first choice for lighterage operation. They would prefer a 10,000-15,000 ton ship for the purpose.—APP
