Lawson undergoes bowling test

KINGSTON, Aug 2: Young West Indies fast bowler Jermaine Lawson went through a seemingly successful ICC test on his bowling action at Sabina Park on Friday.

Lawson, under scrutiny since being formally reported for a suspect bowling action during the last Test between West Indies and Australia in Antigua in May, was mandated to undergo the high-tech bowling test.

The session, lasting more than an hour and a half, was punctuated by long breaks as Dr. Paul Hurrion, young British bio-mechanical expert contracted by West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) to do an analysis of the fast bowler’s action, constantly checked his video and computer equipment, Jamaica Observer reported on Saturday.

The 21-year-old Lawson generated high pace at times during the session and observers believe his action throughout looked “clean”.

“I am feeling happy right now. I am feeling good... I am focused...on playing again for the West Indies,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

Hurrion, who used precision, high-speed equipment including a camera shooting 250 frames per second, 10 times faster than for television, was cautious when responding to reporters about his assessment of Lawson’s session.—PPI
