Chachran under threat of flooding

Published August 3, 2003

BAHAWALPUR, Aug 2: A vast tract of land near Chachran Sharif in the Khanpur tehsil of Rahim Yar Khan is under threat of flooding.

According to sources, the Indus had already caused flooding in two villages of Mauza Pahore, Mazhar Hussain Pahore and Hashmat Hussain Pahore. Adda Ghulam Qadir and Basti Bulhara have also been inundated.

Hundreds of acres of standing cotton crop have been damaged in the area and the residents shifted to safer places.

The chief engineer for irrigation in Bahawalpur zone inspected the situation the other day.

The tehsil administration of Khanpur and district government of Rahim Yar Khan have not so far taken note of the plight of those affected. No relief camp has been set up for the affected people nor any fodder arranged for their animals.

Local UC Nazim Khwaja Kamran Farid has demanded of the district and Punjab governments to immediately set up relief camps around Chachran Sharif.
