Poor waste disposal in Dera

Published August 3, 2003

DERA GHAZI KHAN, Aug 2: The tehsil municipal administration has failed to keep the city clean despite being issued notice by the district Environment Protection Department.

Heaps of garbage at every busy square of the city comprise hazardous hospital waste among other things.

The acting assistant director of district environment office told Dawn that the department had pointed out at least five places in the city where heaps of garbage were all too conspicuous, but the authorities concerned did not take any action.

He said notices had also been served on owners of 10 hide stores, who were asked to shift their businesses away from the city.

He regretted that local butchers slaughtered animals on roads and streets rather than the slaughter-house.
