HYDERABAD, Aug 2: The Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union has demanded that the president and the prime minister should repeal the Industrial Relations Ordinance, 2002.

Speaking at a workers’ meeting at the labour hall, Gari Khata, here on Friday, the general-secretary of the union, Khursheed Ahmad, termed the IRO, 2002, a black law and said it had created resentment among workers.

He informed the workers that the Water and Power Development Authority had accepted the charter of demands of the labour union.

He said Wapda had agreed to regularize services of metre readers, bill distributors and other employees of the power wing after three years on the basis of their performance.

PWHECLU president Abdul Latif Nizamani, lauded the services of workers during the recent heavy rains to restore power supply to different towns of Sindh.

He urged employees to adopt protective measures while working on electricity poles. He said in connection with Safety Day, functions would be held in Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Hyderabad, Lahore and Quetta on Aug 20 to highlight the importance of protective measures.

PEGHAM UNION: Pakistan Wapda Employees Pegham Union regional chairman Anwar Naeem Khan and secretary Khalid Mehmood Khanzada, in a joint statement issued here on Saturday, demanded that the Hesco chief should award special allowance or leave to those employees who had performed their duties during emergency.
