Days after Chinese daily Global Times published a column highlighting Beijing's "vested interest" in settlement of the Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan, China's Foreign Ministry clarified that Beijing would continue to adhere to a policy of non-interference in the issue, IANS reported.
The column in the state-run Global Times on Tuesday highlighted that due to massive investments undertaken in the One Belt, One Road initiative in the region, China has a "vested interest in helping resolve regional conflicts, including the dispute over Kashmir between India and Pakistan."
The column had advised that while China had always "adhered to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries," it can no long turn a "deaf ear to the demands of Chinese enterprises in protecting their overseas investments."
The Chinese foreign ministry in a statement emailed to IANS was today quoted as saying: "China's position on the issue of Kashmir is clear and consistent. It is an issue left over from history between India and Pakistan and shall be properly addressed by India and Pakistan through consultation and negotiation."
The ministry's statement added that building of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has no bearing on China's stance on the matter, and urged Pakistan and India to "properly handle differences by increasing communication and dialogue, and jointly uphold regional peace and stability."
However, it added that Beijing is "willing to make constructive efforts for the improvement of India-Pakistan relations."

Its not the possibility of interference in Kashmir but CPEC route will internationalise the Kashmir issue which India wants to keep under the tight lid. All international powers are interested in this new trade route and they have to go through Kashmir. This is the main issue of concern.

China believes the sanctity of LOC and thats why it will work with Pakistan to build the CPEC on the Pakistani Kashmir as this has no bearing on India.

Sooner or later, China has to interfere and intervene in the core issue of India-held Jammu and Kashmir between the two nuclear armed arch-rivals in South Asia.
It is highly important and greatly imperative that China uses its global soft power to resolve this lingering 70 years old issue of Jammu and Kashmir between the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and India because early and just settlement of this crucial issues is vital for the safety and security of the entire world in general and three billion plus inhabitants of the Asian continent in particular.

@a Yes true by definition it is a bilateral issue but if one party does not agree to solve it by discussion then third party will step in to resolve it. That is how system of justice and court system works all over the world in a civilised world apart from a jungle where might is right. India is behaving like an animal in jungle but it should bear in mind that this is an issue that is not going to go away ever.

Nobody other than China is interested in CPEC. EU countries use a different route bypassing Pakistan. For CPEC to be able to generate any revenue; Afghanistan needs to open up the route and ensure that it will be protected otherwise CPEC will become China's access to Arabian Sea that's all.

"It is an issue leftover from history of India & Pakistan" It was India who took matter to UN for resolving in 1948, and UN passed resolution to hold plebiscite.Since then India is denying right of self determination to Kashmir,and trying to pamper Kashmiris through Art 370 of Indian Constitution,which grants special autonomy to Kashmiris, but the consensus among Kashmiris is only on plebiscite & self determination.India is continuously violating human rights, and suppression their movement by using armed forces on innocent unarmed people, although recently UN and international community expressed their concern on use of gun pellets on Kashmiris,so far India is adamant, and continuing atrocities on Kashmiris,and its responsibility of UN to intervene,and mediate for early resolution.

These days China is in the exalted position of being able to thumb its nose at almost any country on the planet including USA. Hypothetically if China stopped all exports to USA it would of course hurt China but the Us markets would be in doldrums and come to a stand still. Similarly losing the Indian markets would pinch China but that would not be of a major consequence to China vis a vis if major political objectives were at stake.

All major powers are deeply embroiled in international disputes of their own making. They have no moral standing to mediate between India and Pakistan.
The Kashmir tragedy must be resolved by India, Pakistan and Kashmiris-
Make the LOC a soft international border, withdraw all troops, status quo on international boundaries.
Each country takes care of more pressing issues of poverty & education and reduces defense spending.

If you build a cinema house, u want as many people as possible to come watch movie. If you build tea shop u want as many to come drink tea. If the theater owner or teastall owner starts thinking he is doing a favor on others, then that is foolish thinking. However cpec, pakistan thinks it has got golden goose in hand which will dailh give golden eggs. Cpec success is directly proportional to free trade and regional integration. Free movement of goods and people and absolute safety and security like Dubai. Only that will ensure development and progress.

China's position on Kashmir is nothing new, it is quite what is expected owing to its own stand on Indo-China border dispute. Being a good friend Pakistan understands Chinese view. And by the way even if China had any different position that won't bring Kashmir issue any nearer to resolution ...eventually though under deteriorating conditions threatening regional peace the world will have to do away with the current bilateral position.

Looking beyond economic terms CPEC Gwader port can be seen as China's final loop to encircling India....and that is certainly how India has been worried about. The significance of encirclement will only be felt and realised during a crisis situation. On the other hand many believe that the presence of alternative route available to China as CPEC, blockade of Indian sea lanes are actually unlikely to choke Chinese import/export or escalate crisis.

Pakistan needs to establish good relations with all supper powers equally. It should iron out its differences with neighboring India peacefully. The habit of too much reliances or dependence on any one country should be abaondoned.
