MUZAFFARABAD: An office-bearer of former president Pervez Musharraf’s All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) was arrested by the city police here on Saturday for his alleged involvement in preparation and circulation of counterfeit currency.

Station House Office (SHO) Rashid Habib Masoodi told Dawn that Javed Mughal, president of the Muzaffarabad chapter of the APML, was booked in a number of cases of fraud and forgery, including preparation and circulation of counterfeit currency.

He said the suspect, a resident of Makri, was a member of an inter-provincial group which duped people by using fake currency.

Police arrested the suspect in the Eidgah road area and seized 15 packs of counterfeit currency, chemicals and dyes used for preparation of fake currency from his possession, the SHO said, adding that the police were looking for accomplices involved.
