Rokri backs provincial bodies

LAHORE, July 31: President of Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) Aamir Hayat Rokri took a U-turn to his earlier stance when on Thursday he backed the Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision to install provincial cricket associations.

In a media statement released by PCB, Rokri said: “We are right behind the PCB because we understand that the installation of provincial associations will be in the better interest of the game and the sport.”

He added: “We fully support the idea because it is something new and will attract all the association/districts whether they are big or small. It will be a collective effort for the improvement of the game in the country.

“The LCCA will not boycott any event organized by the Punjab Cricket Association and will also support the association in organizing international matches in the region as the reputation of Pakistan cricket will be at stake. Yes, we have some apprehensions but that doesn’t mean that for our own interests, we destroy the image of the country.

“The LCCA feels that boycott is not the solution. Instead it is the dialogue and we are optimistic that we will be able to resolve issues through discussions and deliberations.”
