RAWALPINDI: The Pir Mehar Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) on Thursday established a biogas model plant at the university for training local farmers so they can establish the same at their farms.

The Mehr Biogas Model was inaugurated by Ministry of Climate Change Secretary Syed Abu Ahmad Akif with former secretary Defence Production Division retired Lt Gen Shahid Iqbal, PMAS-AAUR deans, directors and faculty members present.

Faculty members briefed the guests about the objectives for the establishment of the model. They said crops biomass offers a huge potential for energy generation and that Pakistan is a suitable country for the installation of bio-energy facilities for meeting energy requirements.

Solid waste will be collected from campus and recycled into useful products without polluting the environment.
