LAHORE: The Lahore police have decided to avert any protest or jubilation activity after the announcement of the Panama Papers case on Thursday.

A comprehensive plan to the effect was chalked out at a meeting of the police higher-ups at the Police Lines, Qila Gujjar Singh, on Wednesday.

The meeting was attended by Capital City Police Officer Amin Wains, DIG Operation Dr Haider Ashraf, DIG Investigation Sultan Chaudhry, DIG Security Dr Moin and all divisional SPs.

A senior police officer told Dawn on the condition of anonymity that the CCPO directed the officers to remain vigilant and avert any protest or jubilation in the city. He said the police would remain impartial irrespective of the Panamagate verdict. “No one will be allowed to take law into their hand or destroy any public or private property,” he said.

He said all the reserves were called in for deployment in different areas of the city to counter any problematic situation and they were directed to remain impartial. He said the Anti-Riot Police would lead the entire force.

The meeting also discussed plan to deploy anti-riot police on different spots where a large number of people could gather. The spots include Liberty Roundabout, Lalak Jan Chowk, Raiwind, Jati Umra and Nasser Bagh Chowk.

A news release issued by the CCPO office states that a high-level meeting was held to discuss the law and order situation of the city. The CCPO directed police officers to complete the investigation of the high-profile cases and submit its challans in courts in time.

He also directed the officers to discuss the SOPs with the prosecutor general and also complete the pending challans. All the DSPs and SHOs were also directed to update the Crime Record Office (CRO) with investigation of every case.

The CCPO directed the divisional SPs to continue combing operation in their respective areas and personally monitor it to avoid any law and order situation in the city. He also praised the police officers for providing security to people during Easter celebrations.
