HYDERABAD, July 30: A portion of a wall of the historic Pucca Qila caved in on Wednesday. However, no casualty was reported.

A shop owner who had a shop in front of the Pucca Qila, said that the wall, facing the Goods Naka, collapsed in the morning but caused no casualties.

On the previous two occasions portions of the Qila’s wall had collapsed, it had resulted in both casualties and property losses.

The people living on the edge of the Qila refused to vacate their homes despite the civil administration persuading them to do so many times over the past several years.

The lives of the people residing in its vicinity are in grave danger as they were exposed to the risk of collapsing walls.

The Taluka Nazim, city, Haji Moinuddin Shaikh, at a press conference on Tuesday, feared for the lives of the people who had built their houses on or near the boundaries of the fort.

He said that the district Nazim, Dr Makhdoom, had already informed the Sindh governor about the situation.

He said that he had met with the Sindh chief minister regarding it. He proposed that low-cost quarters should be constructed on irrigation land that was lying vacant near the Noorani Basti, Phulelli, to shift the poor people of the Qila.

He said that at least 200 people have been shifted to the Ghulam Hussain Hidayatullah High School following the incident, and added that these people also included those whose houses were located within the Pucca Qila.

He said that food would be provided to those people who were really affected.

Meanwhile, the roof of a house in Sehwani Mohallah, Resham Gulli, collapsed on Wednesday. However, nobody was hurt.
