KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has supported the Sindh government’s stance on appointment of an inspector general of police of its choice.

“Why can’t the Sindh government appoint an IG of its choice?” the former president asked during an interview to a private news channel.

In reply to a question about an impression that the incumbent Sindh IG is a “good officer”, Mr Zardari remarked: “If A.D. Khowaja is a good officer, then what are others?”

The Sindh High Court had last week extended its stay on the removal of IG Khowaja and ordered him to continue his duty till a final decision on the matter.

Making a jibe at the prime minister, the former president said Nawaz Sharif was now tired and he [Zardari] would make sure that the PPP fully exhausted him. During the next PPP rally, ‘Go Nawaz Go’ slogans would be raised, he added.

On the issue of his missing aides, Mr Zardari said: “It doesn’t matter to me, no matter how many of my aides are arrested.”

He claimed that “someone else”, and not police, was involved in the disappearance of his aides, adding that those who wanted to support him were facing threats.
