KARACHI, Jan 3: The Sindh health department is spending Rs55 million to enhance emergency preparedness and is in the process of distributing emergency kits to health facilities all over the province so that all the districts are able to cope with any emergencies.

A health department official, Dr (Capt) Abdul Majid, told this to WHO operations officer while receiving two new emergency health kits from the World Health Organization representative on Thursday. The WHO kits comprising 48 cartons contain medications, renewable items, equipments, infusions, first-aid items and surgical tools.

WHO operations officer, Dr Ghulam Nabi Kazi, presenting the emergency kits to the Sindh health official, called it a ‘modest WHO gesture’, saying that the organization laid great emphasis on emergency preparedness as it could arise anytime anywhere and timely provision of medical help could make the difference between life and death.

He also praised the vision of Sindh health minister Maj General(retd) Ahsan Ahmed and secretary Khalid Latif Chaudhary in making adequate arrangements for improving emergency facilities in the province.
