LAHORE: Ten suspected militants of the Jamaatul Ahrar, including Anwarul Haq, the handler of Feb 13 bomb attack on The Mall, were killed in an operation by the Punjab police’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Friday night.
According to a spokesman for the CTD, a team from Lahore was taking five arrested suspects, including Haq, to Manawan for seizing weapons and explosives when they were attacked at about 1.15am near Ring Road by nine “terrorists”.

The attackers got the arrested suspects freed and fled towards the Ravi river in the Manawan area.
The CTD officials called for more force and chased the suspects. At about 1.45am, they located the suspects and ordered them to surrender, but the militants opened fire at them and an encounter ensued. When the firing stopped, 10 men were found dead.
Five of the killed militants were identified as Haq, Abdullah, Attaur Rehman, Imam Shah and Irfan Khan.

Obviously to avoid our stupid prosecution process they just killed them in a fake encounter. What actually happened was their hideout was located and they were taken out in one go with full might.

A really botched up and criminally negligent handling of this valuable prisoner, who could have provided valuable intelligence to our agencies.. Alas, it appears he led the unwitting 'team' into a preplanned attack. How was he able to manage such an operation while in custody.??
Truly a mind boggling lapse on the part our security apparatus.
A full scale inquiry must be carried out against such casual handling of sensitive prisoners.
Also, I can't believe some of the readers' naïve comments .

Strange it sounds: ten suspects arrested, they were freed by nine militants that makes 19 in total, five of them were killed in counter attack by police, then what happened to the other 14? Are these 14 in police custody now or did they escape? What happened to the weapons and explosives police were trying to locate through the 10 arrested, any sign of these weapons? Please give more news that may clarify the situation.

The story of escape and killing of confirmed terrorists appears to be an extreme case of negligence, if not deliberate action, of the police. Terrorists must be taken alive to reach their roots, otherwise having dead terrorists is just an exercise in futility and will only make terrorism thrive further.
