LAHORE, July 28: The Punjab education department is considering to establish ‘education reforms and monitoring cells’ at district level.

This was stated by Punjab Minister for Education Mian Imran Masood on Monday. He was talking to a World Bank delegation, comprising country manager Ms Tahsin Syed and director Halon Crag.

Mr Masood said the cells would be set up to ensure implementation of the three-year education programme and close coordination of district governments.

The minister told the delegation that the government had prepared a mega project to provide in-service training to the teachers through the University of Education.

The first session would start from Aug 2 in which some 150,000 teachers would be given training at tehsil level. The training at tehsil level would also help the department to save a lot of money to be paid as TA/DA in case the teachers would be asked to attend training session in cities.

The education minister said teachers’ promotion had been linked with in-service training.

The education department had prepared district profiles to evaluate the departmental work. The district governments had also been taken into confidence while preparing development schemes to spend Rs21 billion in next three years.

The minister also assured the World Bank delegation that every rupee of public exchequer would be spent meticulously.
