Sindh cabinet approves removal of A.D. Khawaja from post

The Sindh Cabinet on Wednesday gave its nod for the removal of Inspector General of Police (IGP) A.D. Khawaja, a spokesperson from the chief minister's office confirmed.

The approval for surrendering the services of the IGP to the federal government came during a cabinet meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

The cabinet also approved the appointment of Additional IG Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti as the provincial police chief.

The decisions were made after Advocate General Sindh Zameer Ghumro briefed the cabinet regarding the ruling of the Sindh High Court on the matter.

Earlier this week, the Sindh High Court had suspended a notification issued by the Sindh government for the removal of the IGP.

The SHC had suspended Dasti's 'promotion' as acting IGP as well.

The provincial government had sent Khawaja packing on Apr 1 and appointed Dasti, a Grade-21 police officer already working in the province, in his place.

Corrupt to the core and nothing else. If Pakistan has to rescue itself, then model of South Korea has to be followed, peaceful protest to force the rulers out of the offices

Politicization of police has always worked in the favour of dynastic rulers of Sindh and Punjab. District & federal police officers are subservient to ruling MNAs & MPAs.

@Irfan Ali Police Departments need more training and capable officers. Its important to maintain 'independence' of police departments and avoid political interference.
