FAISALABAD, July 28: The provincial government has, after a lapse of around 23 months, constituted the Punjab Election Authority to perform a number of functions envisaged in the Punjab Local Government Ordinance 2001.

Headed by Justice Ijaz Nisar (retired), the authority comprises Maj Tariq Mahmood Mazari (retired), Anwar Hussain and Chaudhry Shaukat Ali.

Punjab Local Government and Rural Development Secretary Najeebullah Malik said in a directive that the PEA would start work with immediate effect.

The PEA decides elections disputes, supervises the conduct of recall motions against Nazims and Naib Nazims of union, tehsil and district councils.

It also deals with judicial matters pertaining to recall motion of Nazims and Naib Nazims of local councils, any other assignment given by the Punjab government.
