Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai to address Canada parliament

Canada's prime minister has announced that Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai will address his country's Parliament and receive the honorary citizenship bestowed upon her in 2014.

Justin Trudeau says the 19-year-old activist will become the youngest person to address the body when she visits April 12. Trudeau said on Monday that he and Yousafzai will also discuss empowering girls through education.

Yousafzai was 15 when she was shot in the head by Taliban militants while returning from school. She was targeted due to her advocacy for women's education.

Yousafzai was initially treated in Pakistan and later flown to a hospital in Britain. She won world acclaim for her campaign and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014.

She is one of just six people to receive honorary Canadian citizenship.

Heartiest congratulations to Malala and her family. In my opinion, it is not a matter of pride for fellow Pakistanis and Pakistan as a nation. In fact, it is a matter of shame that Malala has to leave her own country and has to settle abroad for her safety and to fulfill her dreams.

uptil now I am unable to grasp the reason for which Malala was awarded Noble Prize, what is her achievement? What good has she done for humanity? Why is she been given so much importance since years? what is her role in shaping history? I can't understand this Rocket Science!

Instead of addressing Canadian parliament, she should address the sufferings of Swati people. But that was not to be because Malala is made in USA with 3S facilities(sales,service,spares)

@bk Don't you know? Anyone who gets a taste of success, fame and fortune outside the country, through their hard work and sacrifices, has little reasons to return to Pakistan. Anyone who has a taste of robbing the country blind through political manipulation to come to power, does return to Pakistan. Only to leave again, after they've looted the country to enjoy their hiatus outside the country for the next 5-10 years. Then repeat the same pattern when they see greater opportunities to fool the Pakistani public again and make off with even bigger prize! Sad realities of Pakistan.

Our Prime Minister should have invited her to address the Pakistan Parliament much before the Canadians and the others did. It is a shame how we have treated two (2) Nobel laureates from Pakistan instead of honoring them as our national heroes

@Bionic Dexter ...when TTP took over Swat in 2008-9 and were running a parallel government, they stopped girls from going to school. malala was writing and speaking against their oppression. She was later shot in the head by the TTP. Thats quite an achievement and deserves felicitation. Pakistanis are the only people who have not taken pride in their Nobel Prize winners, be it Abdus Salam, be it Malala. For that we deserve a special prize

Education needs a major reform in Pakistan. Focus should be on equitable opportunities and a statewide implementation of external benchmarking. Testing and evaluation at school and high school level required a major paradigm shift. Community service, ethics, research and project based learning requires a statewide implementation. Education department shall be independent of political institutions. Commenter has served as academic head to several IGCSE, IB, FBISE, and now AP curriculas in the Middle East.

I am also thinking what this young lady did to get Nobel prize. She worked hard after the fact not before. If any lady was given such a support she might have done equal or better. She is the lucky one to get prize not the deserved one.
