Jamaat-i-Islaami (JI) has called for protests at 50 locations across Karachi today, a day after yesterday's riots paralysed major arteries in the city.
Confirming the planned protests, JI's social media head Kashif Hafeez told Dawn.com their renewed protests against K-Electric began right after Asr prayers today.
Areas where the party plans to hold protests include Malir Zone, Shah Faisal, Gulshan Zone (near Disco Bakery), Jauhar Zone (near Samama Shopping Mall), Lea Market, Garden Area, Fresco Chowk, Defence Moar, Baloch Colony, Kala Pul, Karimabad, UP Moar, Liaquatabad, Daewoo Chowrangi, Malir Press club, Katti Pahari, and Sher Shah Chowrangi.
The call for mass protests comes after yesterday's events which saw a a protest erupt into a standoff between the police and JI workers when the Karachi chapter Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman was arrested by the police.
JI workers then proceeded to block Shara-e-Faisal and other major thoroughfares causing hardship to commuters and skirmished with law enforcing authorities.

JI is far out of date and out of touch with time. They are still stuck in conspiracy theories, and victim mentality. It is their last ditch effort to gain any relevance in Karachi, as MQM splits the scavengers are out.
But bottom line is they have no program no vision no leadership whatsoever.

It is easy to comment from outside the karachi. We know that how much troulble it causes in karachi.Blocking roads and keeping citizens in the trouble is not the democracy. Thsese goons should be arrested and put behind the bars with their illeterate leadership. We have got mqm in the shape of JI

The day when karachi Electric was privatised and about 40 so called experts were brought to put ailing KESC on line, I was sure about the inverted logic getting worse out of it. How can a person drawing millions a month in salary and perks would go out his luxury office to untangle the innumerable Kundas and other ailments and correct the things for poor Karachiites?

Traffic will be blocked in the city. Everyday number of people in Karachi suffer heart attacks. Today they will not be able to get to the hospitals thanks to JI protests on the streets.

Powerful people who own big chunk of shares in the electricity company are determined to extract as much profit as possible. They are fully protected in money scheme, whether or not they provide any electricity service to consumers. I think the only way this lynching of consumer will stop when supreme court orders an inquiry in the workings of electricity company, otherwise consumers of electricity will keep suffering as usual.

I really feel that Jamat e Islami and other parties , which have made a habit of negative street protests, should be dealt with severely at provincial and federal levels. Possibly, Pak Army should take action to permanently dismantle such elements in our society under the NAP.
