RAWALPINDI: All police personnel from the rank of a constable to the inspector general of police (IGP) will start wearing the new ‘olive green uniform’ by the end of April.

A senior police official told Dawn the new uniform, the cost of which is Rs1,950, had been approved by more than 70pc of the people concerned.

He said the old black and khaki uniform absorbed heat and made it difficult for the policemen who performed their duty for 14 hours in summer.

The new uniform was comfortable and weather friendly, he added.Additional Inspector General (Logistics) Humayun Bashir Tarar told Dawn that the Rawalpindi police will be provided uniform by the end of April.

It has been stitched by a reputed firm and designed by experts of an engineering university.

Punjab police have already issued a notification which states that the new uniform will be available in Lahore by the end of March and subsequently in other districts.
