KARACHI: A fire broke out in a warehouse at the Pakistan Navy dockyard on Saturday, according to officials.

The blaze erupted in the morning, which was controlled by over two dozen fire tenders belonging to Pakistan Navy, Karachi Port Trust and fire brigade of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, they said.

Pakistan Navy spokesperson said the fire erupted ‘accidentally’ which was ‘swiftly contained and extinguished’.

“Due to prompt and professional handling by experienced firefighting teams, no casualties occurred during the incident.”

Meanwhile, a senior police officer who wished not to be named told Dawn that after receiving information about the incident, he reached the spot but police were not allowed to enter the premises. He said the godown belonged to Pakistan Navy where oil paintings and stationery goods were kept, which were destroyed in the fire.

Fire brigade officials said they were informed about the incident at around 11.15am and they sent seven fire tenders, one snorkel and one bowser. This was in addition to several fire tenders of the Navy and KPT.
