LHC chief justice makes his salary, perks public

LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah has made his salary/perks public and also appointed a public information officer under the Punjab Transparency and Right to Information Act 2013.

A release issued by the LHC media cell on Friday states that the chief justice draws Rs1.0538 million per month salary which includes substantive pay of Rs713,280, special judicial allowance of Rs269,525 and medical allowance of Rs67,733.

The chief justice does not receive entitled monthly house rent of Rs65,000 as he lives in an official residence.

The information has also been forwarded to the Punjab Information Commission.

Through a notification issued by the LHC registrar, deputy registrar Shahbaz Ashraf has been appointed as public information officer at the court.

A couple of days ago, the Punjab Information Commission had asked the LHC registrar to provide information to an applicant about the monthly salary and other benefits of the chief justice.

One must commend the man for this . .....but this is apart from his life time and thereafter's pension and privileges. What needs to be seen is how the scale was jacked up and how fast and by which governments......that would be quite an eye opener.

@Nilesh: $115,000 a year plus luxurious house CJ lives, is huge amount in Pakistan. But obviously, if one compares the salary with salaries in western countries, it is just enough. Actually, salary of judges were very low until Musharraf came to power and jacked Judges salary many fold. Since then, judges salary are increasing in leap and bound. Anyhow, if Pakistani judges give justice to their job, give judgment quickly and on merit (without biases, or getting influenced by people in power, acquaintances, or influential personalities), stop all this 'tareekh after tareekh' system, stop wholesale bails and bails before arrest to criminals (especially corrupts and crooks in government posts, who looted and destroyed the country), make sure that police do not abuse power (give severe punishment to police abusing power), give severe punishment to terrorists, kidnappers, rapists and murderers, use common sense when required, than ... each and every penny they get would be justified.

@Nilesh : He is getting this salary in a country where per capita income is just 1000 US$ and judicial system moves (if ever it moves) at a snail's pace. Moreover he is getting this salary in a country where some Masters degree holders and holders of professional degrees are greying their hair looking for jobs at a monthly salary of just Rs. 10000 (Less than US$ 100). Please see his salary and other perks in this background.

Please see in view of what was considered as a proper salary of judges 150 YEARS AGO!!!! "The salary of Chief Justice of High Court will be Rs.90,000 and that of the other Judges Rs.85,000 per month". Indian High Court Act, 1861.

This is affront to people like me whose cases are languishing in courts for decades. How can he justify such an amount when there is no law and barely any order in Pakistan?

Its a good start - with it important 75,000 lahore lawyers submit their income details n pay incone tax then it would nice too.

So far as he is honest, unbiased and doing his duties with true conscience, I have no objection to the salary he gets. Problem is when you are getting a low salary and enjoying the life style of a millionaire which is the case with most of patwaris , police station officers, food inspectors and other govt officials including defense personnel.

@M.Saeed . "Even the President gets only Rs. 80,000 per month". Who said that? just quantify the rent of the residence he is occupying, it must be more than 10 Million per month . And with no authority or any decision taking powers, and no responsibility , what else would a person wish for!
