Karzai invites President

KABUL, July 25: Afghan President Hamid Karzai has invited President Pervez Musharraf to Kabul, Afghan state media said on Friday.

Kabul Television said President Musharraf had accepted the invitation but it gave no date for a visit.

The television said Mr Karzai and President Musharraf spoke by telephone and “discussed all issues and agreed with each other”.

“President Karzai invited President Musharraf to Kabul and President Musharraf accepted,” it said.

The invitation comes at a tense time in ties between the two countries in the US-led “war on terror”, with Afghanistan urging Pakistan to do more to track down Taliban fighters and prevent them mounting attacks in Afghanistan.—Reuters
