Inzamam announces squad for West Indies tour

Chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq on Wednesday announced the 16-member One Day International (ODI) team and 15-member Test and T20 squads for the upcoming tour of West Indies.

Addressing a press conference at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, the chief selector said that all factors were taken into consideration when selecting the team.

When asked whether the squad was selected based on their fitness level, Inzamam responded saying "32 players had passed the fitness test but we cannot select a 32-member team".

"Umar [Akmal] was the only player who failed the fitness test," he added. "Of course, fitness is important but performance is the main factor."

When asked about the exclusion of former ODI captain Azhar Ali from the squad, the chief selector said, “Azhar is a very good player. We wanted to give opportunity to the younger players to play the one-day matches.”

“It is possible that when we go to England to play the champions trophy… then we might give opportunity to the seniors,” he added.

Inzamam went on to inform that Mohammad Amir was not selected in the T20 squad as the management wanted to give him some rest.

The chief selector, further reflecting on the process of selection, said the need was felt that younger players should be given the opportunity to play ODIs.

"All the young players who have been selected will be given a chance to perform," Inzamam maintained.

Gosh when will we get rid of Hafeez? His performance over the last two series has been pathetic. He was sent back from Australia just a while ago and even in PSL he wasn't really consistent Azhar should be in one day squad as a batsman. He should never have been a captain

Umar finally out but now this old goat failure kamran is back. inzamam talking about youngster and yet bringing back this 36 year old proven failure who is only good in dead domestic pitches. What a shame. Next bring minandad, them akram and waqar as well if they start playing domestic and perform. Why cant we understand and let go past and move on. We talk about future world cup planning and yet calling back 36 year old. What a joke.

What a shameful, favorisim selection by Inzi, old players in team not youngester given chance, old guards Misbah buddies Hafiz, Malik, Wahab, Sohail and Kamran Akmal, very very overage players, never win champion trophy see Indian, Aust, NZ, S.Africa all are trying like V,Kohli,Pandia, Steve smith, Imran Tahir, Guptal, Morgan all are young talent ready to play champion trophy, we old guards, tired, unfit, unable to field these 5 players, Pak is not trying to young, hard hitters and physically fit players, Good decision to drop Azhar as a player and Captain, this is appreciated. He is not ODI players.

Sarfarz is young, hard worker, good sense and fighter, it is hard for him to success with politics of Shohaib Malik, Hafeez, Wahab Riaz ,Sohail Tanvir and Kamran A, they never play good and Sarfarz will not success as captain, bcs these ex captains, ex=senior players politics . Very very difficult for Sarfarz. PCB look to the result and his new captain future.

Not a great work done in selection as we could have choose more better side like instead of Hafeez and Malik some new faces could have been brought in!! It make sense to select Akmal after he had shown some brilliant performance with the bat in PSL and also a great decision of not considering all those who failed the fitness test but at the same time i would have pick Hussain Talat an emerging talent instead of Malik or Hafeez. I suggest to make a blend of new and old player so that we can balance the team and not to change whole team overnight. I can feel some influence of high ups of not selecting Aamir in 20Twenty but happy to see alternate new players instead. All the best to Team Pakistan !!

Great to see Kamran Akmal back in the squad. He has been performing consistently in the domestic games and was great in PSL. People who are question his place, did they see him bat in PSL ? No young gun can match Kamran's boundary hitting ability. Kami should be seriously considered as a high impact terrain hugging opener in test matches as well. He is our smart David Warner !

Is this team is for world class, NO Sir Inzi, these are old players in team, Sohail,Riaz, Kamran, Hafeez and Malik ???????? Questionable selection, they can beat Poor WIndies and can not win in Champion Trophy. Example, these team beat the WI "C" Class team in UAE and lost series with world class team NZ and Aust, Add Fawad Alam.

PCB nominated old age Talat Ali Malik as Manager is almost 69/70 yrs old team selected by Inzi, Tousif and third selector Haider unknown person, why Hafeez, Shohaib Malik, Sohail Tanvir and Wahab, where is Sohail Khan, Ashgar, Fawad Alam, Osama mir, PCB chairman intervene in this matter and cancel these players selected new blood.

In past since 1992 w/c ODI and one with captaincy of Yunus Khan win the T20 final, these oldage Misbah and Company, half dozen old IN/OUT basis never win any cups, again came back and failure of Sarfarz as captain, even though he is talent and hardworking. No hope for future growth of young talent. Inzi and Company to be replaced immediately, Sohail Khan, and Fawad Alam to be injected.

I am sad to see no hussain Talat also there are few names I was expecting to be in odi side like saud shakeel, usman salahuddin all three v good middle order batsmen and lastly I am surprised not to see anwar ali in the playing 11 totally unfiar :( The route taken by PCB and team management I think is based on playing 11 as below Ahmad Shahzad / Kamran Akmal, Fakhar Zaman / Mohammad Hafeez, Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, Sarfraz Ahmed (c), Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Hasan Ali, Sohail Tanvir/ Rumman Raees, Wahab Riaz / Usman Khan Shinwari if shinwari or ruman performs well they might end up playing more than 2 matches each.

I think Shoaib and Hafeez bribe these selectors to always remain in the team. Both these players are proven losers - below average players - despite of that always remain in the team. Shoaib Malik can only play spinners - cannot play fast bowlers or even medium pacers. Such a limited talent - being treated as stalwart. Some thing must be there for his and Hafeez' selection.

Inclusion of couple of yougesters is a welcome step but how come hafeez, shoaib Malik and akmal senior made into the squad considering the pathetic performance of hafeez in particular and doubtful credentials and age of akmal senior. We the fan had hopes that inzimam will be fearless and will stick to merit while selecting the national team but unfortunately he has let us down.

Where is Hassan Khan? Talking about youngsters. How young Kamran Akmal is? The nation has not forgotten what Kamran Akmal did in Sydney test? Inclusion of Kamran Akmal will be disastrous for the team which is already struggling with match fixing allegations from PSL. If performance in PSL was the criteria to pick Kamran Akmal then why Sohail Khan who was the best bowler of PSL was dropped from the team? Pathetic selection.

Fawad domestic average is better than Misbah, Younis, Inzamamam, Miandad, M Yousuf, Hanif Muhammad ... or any Pakistani ever played cricket for Pakistan, or any current batsman in any country who plays cricket ... and you are taking about Shoaib and Hafeez who are second grade batsman? Anyhow, we are talking about Pakistan where nothing is Pakistani, everything belongs to people who run the institutions (sports or otherwise), who do everything that they like though it hurt the country, and it is unfortunate that there is no accountability or punishment for them in the country.

Why to accuse the selectors for parchi and nepotism?Shoaib Malik is consistent and a useful all rounder.A few senior players should stay ,though youngsters should be preferred in the long run.One hopes shoaib and Hafeez would soon give way to the youngsters.However youngsters like khurram manzoor,sami aslam ,etc were given fair chances.Older lot is still needed to fill up couple of spots. Why we start hating the old players who had performed heroics in the past?We should not be so much TOTA CHASHM.

@zahid As regards Shoaib Malik, I fully agree with you that he cannot handle fast or even medium fast bowlers. He is not an aggressive stroke player. Most of his runs come from third man or point. He is definitely not suited for ODI or T20 cricket

Mind boggling is the selection of KAKmal , Asif Zakir & Hafeez. God knows what is the rationale of Inzy & Co in selecting Hafeez (Aged 36) a consistent flop alongwith the other two are all above 35. Honestly speaking, I don't think any of the three deserved to be in the squad of both T20s & ODIs.

Shameful selection! Recycle old players like hafeez, shoaib, akmal ...Supress new talent, same policy that won them bottom slot in odi. Lets start with the top, Inzamam must go. Now couple of good innings will give them a blanket pass for next 5 series of failures! Really we should stop follow ing Pakistan cricket. No rebuilding of team, just nepotism. Clowns running the show!

Five all-rounders in T-20 team means the new comers will not get chance. Babar Azam is too slow for T-20, Umar Akmal was a better choice. No need for Hafeez in T-20 as he is selected for his bowling but the team already has Imad Wasim, M. Nawaz, Shoaib Malik and Sohail Tanvir. For ODI its too soon for Fakhar Zaman he needs to be tested moreover Sohail Khan and M. Sami are far better bowlers than Junaid Khan.

@Pappu - Forget Karachi players as long as Inzimam is selector. He thinks Karachi is Bangladesh or Afghanistan from where he cannot pick players. Anwar Ali, Khurram Manzoor, Fawad Alam, Sadaf, Saad Ali, Sohail Khan, Mohammad Sami, M. Abbas were not considered because they are from Sind but the selectors picked the failed and tested Junaid Khan, M. Hafeez, Kamran Akmal. Sind should apply to ICC for an associate member status.

@Qamar choudhry usa - Fawad was not even picked by any PSL franchise, he could be a suitable Test player ready to take over from Younus Khan and Misbah.

@optimist ... Fawad was not given the contract by PCB due to their biased decisions. No franchise can pick any player who is not in contract with PCB. It's the PCB who never bothered to include him in 55 players.

@omar lakhani When Dhoni was made captain of ODI team he requested the selectors to drop old guards like Dravid, Laxman, Ganguly, Shawag and Tandulkar and to have a young team with preference for good fil;eders. If Sarfaraz wants to succeed this is what he should do. Sarfaraz should get rid of Kamran Akmal, M. Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Wahab Riaz and Junaid Khan. There are planet of youngsters like Shadab Khan, Ramaan Raees, Hasan Khan, Babar Azam, Usman Khan Shinwari ready to to take over.
