MUZAFFARGARH: The 17th death Anniversary of folk singer Pathanay Khan was held at Kot Addu with dozens of singers and poets in attendance.

The singers sang the songs of Pathanay Khan to pay tribute to him.

Iqbal Pathanay Khan, the son of the legendary singer who had received Pride of Performance, told Dawn his father was first named Ghulam Muhammad at the time of his birth in 1926 at Basti Tambu Wali, Kot Addu.

Pathanay Khan was known for singing kafis of Khwaja Ghulam Farid and Shah Hussain in his inimitable style that nobody was able to copy. The most famous of his kafis are mendha ishq vi tu, cheena eeen chirreenda yar, ghoom charakhra, mera ranjhan hun koi hore.

He died after a protracted illness at his native town of Kot Addu on March 9, 2000.
