Rs5m allocated for BHUs repair

RAWALPINDI, Jan 2: The government has allocated Rs 5 million for the repair of Basic Health Units in Rawalpindi district. The work is scheduled to start in the first week of February.

There are 98 BHUs in the district, most of which are in dilapidated condition.

Health officials say the poor condition of the BHUs is a great hindrance in the effective delivery of health care facilities.

This fund would be spent mostly on repair and maintenance of the BHUs buildings. Tenders are likely to be published within 15 days after the completion of related formalities by the health department.

A large number of the BHUs lack basic amenities like electricity, water, sewerage and gas. The officials say plans are also afoot to meet this shortage under the Social Action Program. “Most of the BHUs are short of equipment also,” they said.
