TOBA TEK SINGH, Dec 30: Dacoits shot dead a man and seriously injured his brother on Pirmahal-Sindhilanwali Road on Monday night.
Three armed men attempted to stop Afzal Gujjar and his brother Arshad who were going to Khanewal from Pirmahal in a wagon (No DNA 7435) near Chak 696/35 GB. They dacoits shot at and injured the two when they did not stop and took away Rs8,000 from them.
Afzal died at a Pirmahal hospital where the condition of Arshad was stated to be serious.
The two brothers were residents of Chak 37/12-L, Sahiwal.
DACOITS HELD:: Five members of an inter-district gang of dacoits belonging to a gypsy tribe have been arrested.
This was claimed by Faisalabad range DIG Rana Abid Saeed, Toba Tek Singh DPO Saad Akhtar Bharwana and Gojra ASP Saqib Memon on Tuesday.
Speaking at a press conference, the police officers claimed that the arrested accused had been involved in at least 100 dacoity and murder cases all over the province and wanted by police of Sheikhupura, Jhang, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Kasur, Layyah, Sialkot, Sargodha, Khanewal and Toba Tek Singh districts.
The arrested gang members were identified as Shah Muhammad, Ghulam Rasool, Sanaullah, Muhammad Arif and Murad Ali. They were arrested by Nawan Lahore police from Qadir Canal bridge where they were looting passers-by.
During preliminary investigations, the arrested accused confessed that they had killed Abdul Ghaffar in Chak 277 JB Nangal when they were cordoned by hundreds of farmers during an attempt to loot a house two months ago. Following the incident, hundreds of villagers had blocked Faisalabad-Gojra Road for many hours.
So far the arrested accused had confessed that they were involved in 36 dacoity and murder cases in Faisalabad, 9 in Jhang, 13 in Sheikhupura, 12 in Gujranwala, 6 in Kasur, 3 in Layyah, 5 in Khanewal, 3 in Sargodha, one in Sialkot and 4 in Toba Tek Singh.
