PTCL service in Swat suspended

Published January 3, 2002

MINGORA, Jan 2: The Pakistan Telecommunication Company authorities have stopped the provision of Paknet and Brain Net internet facilities in Swat.

The facilities were provided here under the Internet Universal Access Program through the Mardan servers, but they were disconnected on Dec 5.

The Pakistan On-Line (POL) has installed its own server and is now the  only internet service provider in Swat. But it has increased its  registration fee from Rs500 to Rs750.

The internet criticized the authorities for stopping the facilities. They said that at least 2,000 subscribers have been deprived of the facilities and they have no option, but to get the connections from the POL.

The POL services are also not satisfactory and it has no power backup system. The people have demanded that the authorities concerned should take  notice of the situation and ensure the provision of quality internet service.
