GUJRANWALA, Dec 29: Three people, including a minor girl, were killed while a dozen others sustained injuries on Monday in a road accident near Alipur Chattha.
A wagon, carrying a marriage party, was going to Alipur Chattha from Silanwali village when it collided headon with a tractor-trolley. Consequently, minor girl Bushra, Rehman Jalal and conductor Muhammad Boota died instantly while about a dozen others sustained serious injuries. They were rushed to the local DHQ Hospital in critical condition.
Police have registered a case against tractor-trolley driver Bashir Ahmad and are investigating.
Meanwhile, the son of a bank officer was crushed to death by a speeding bus in Kamoki. Yasir was crossing the road near the vegetable market when the incident happened.
FLOUR BAGS: At least 21,060 families in the district will be provided 20kg flour bag at Rs170 each from Jan 2 through computerized coupons while sale points will be announced shortly.
This was stated by Provincial Transport Minister Chaudhry Shamshad Ahmad Khan at a meeting held here on Monday. District Nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha, DCO Fazeel Asghar and other senior officers of the district government were also present on the occasion.
The meeting was informed that the Punjab chief minister had given an approval for Rs1.26 million subsidy for providing around 41,119 flour bags to each district. The government would provide subsidy of Rs30 per flour bag.
It was also told that the sale points of flour bags would be set up in Gujranwala, Wazirabad, Naushera Virkan, Kamoki and Gujranwala Sadar.
The meeting urged that all Zakat officers should prepare and provide the lists of the destitute, including widows, to the DCO within two days. Exhibition: The local Chamber of Commerce and Industry has nothing to do with the “made in Gujranwala” exhibition to be held at Ghulshan Iqbal Park and Model Town Park by some companies.
The GCCI secretary, in a memorandum on Monday, asked all office-bearers and members of the chamber to avoid the show.
