KARACHI, Dec 29: The Edhi Foundation has planned procurement of relief goods, including medicines, worth $500,000 for the victims of the devastating earthquake in Bam town of Iran.

An official spokesman for the Foundation, Rizwan Edhi, told Dawn on Monday that Abdul Sattar Edhi had transferred the amount from a UK bank to a bank in Tehran.

“We have negotiated with the officials in the Iranian consulate here who have asked us to arrange badly needed medicines for the quake-hit people. We plan to fly to Tehran to procure the relief goods from there or Zahidan, Rizwan Edhi said.

He said that land route to reach the calamity-hit area would take plenty of time and, as such, the Foundation decided to go for the air travel and purchase medicines and other relief goods from Tehran or Zahidan so that they could reach the people in trouble as soon as possible.

He said that Abdul Sattar Edhi would be leading the Foundation’s team, consisting Bilquees Edhi, Mehmood, Naeem Tarar and he himself, which would be leaving Karachi for Tehran on Wednesday.
