KARACHI, Dec 28: The residents of Saudia Colony Khokhrapar are made to suffer owing to faulty sewerage lines and filthy water is overflowing on streets, creating an extreme unhygienic condition.

The residents said the concerned union council was not taking the matter seriously, and off and on they have to hire private sanitary force to clean sewerage line in the colony, but this time, as the main line had completely choked, the sewage has started entering their houses from manholes.

They have urged the town nazim to depute the staff to clean the sewerage lines in the locality and to repair the damaged manholes.

The area people said that the sewerage system was laid some four years back by the Karachi Development Authority, but since its laying, no proper system had been devised by the civic bodies concerned for its proper maintenance.

Moreover, they said that private sanitary workers are performing the duties of cleaning streets in their area and lifting garbage, but the town staff was not available.

The Namazis suffer the most as sewage and garbage continue to spoil the environment. The area people said that the Auqaf department had a couple of years back built a road in front of the Madina Masjid, but as sewage overflow continues, it has ruined this road also.

In a previous sanitation drive, the municipal staff had littered garbage on a portion of this road, they said, urging the governor to take notice of the situation, and order the local government commission to conduct a probe into the municipal officials’ failure to keep the area clean.
