KARACHI, Dec 28: Sindh Minister for Women Development Dr Saeeda Malik has said the government would soon set up a display and sales centre to sell handicraft work of rural women in Karachi.

Through this centre the government will trying to eliminate the role of the middleman and provide maximum prices to these products,” Dr Saeeda Malik said speaking at the inauguration of a computer centre here on Saturday.

The computer centre has been set up by the Muslim Ladies Technical and Industrial Institute (Muslit) in collaboration with the Ko-Ordination Group at Nanakwara.

Underlining the need for increased role of women in Pakistani society, the minister said the present government had a vision to provide equal opportunities to women so that they could also play their role in the development of the country, and for that purpose special attention was being paid to education and health sectors.

The minister appreciated the role of Muslit founded by Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah for providing education and skills to the women.

She said there was no dearth of talent in the country and Pakistani youth including women were playing an important in the IT field.

She announced to donate Rs25,000 for the institute and promised scholarships to deserving students. She appreciated the role of Memon community in the field of philanthropy.

Chairman of the Ko-Ordination Group, Hanif S. Kalia, speaking on the occasion, pointed out that in India girls were earning thousands of dollars working at home after getting one-year IT training, and the same could be done here.

Chairperson of Muslit Mrs Hanifa O.V. Jumma, principal of the institute Ms Roshan Razzak, and Majeed Abdani also spoke on the occasion.—APP
