Objections removed, says Qazi

Published December 28, 2003

ISLAMABAD, Dec 27: MMA Acting President Qazi Hussain Ahmed has said objections raised by MMA on the constitutional package have been removed by the government.

Talking to PTV he said: “We had objections on two points of the constitutional package. The government has removed our objections and the matter has been settled with the government,” he added.

He said it was prerogative of parliament to amend the Constitution according to prescribed rules by two-thirds majority of the two Houses.

It had been agreed upon by both the parties that parts of the LFO which were acceptable to the MMA would become part of the Constitution and those parts which were not acceptable to the MMA would be removed, Qazi said.

He said the NSC would be established by an act of parliament and Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain and his companions had accepted the points of the MMA. —APP
