MULTAN, Dec 27: A local court on Saturday remanded in police custody the five accused in Afsheen murder case for another 10 days.

The police had produced the accused before Civil Judge Chaudhry Anwar Ali on the completion of their four-day remand which was granted on Dec 23.

The investigators sought remand extension on the ground that some important record about the incident had yet to be recovered from the accused in custody.

The accused are Afsheen’s grandfather Allah Ditta Sahu, brother Arslan Mussarat, Fazeel Raza, Hammad Karamat and Taufeeq Ahmad.

The court allowed defence counsel Sajjad Waince to talk to his clients.

The counsel later told newsmen that police were torturing Fazeel Raza, a former general secretary of the Multan Press Club, to make him confess the murder. The police authorities, however, denied the charge.

Afsheen’s father advocate Mussarat Hussain Sahu and maternal uncle Naveed Akhtar Sahu have been on judicial remand.

It was learnt that the Sahu family had presented documents to establish that Arslan was not present in Multan on Nov 12 when Afsheen was murdered.Distinction: A Pakistani belonging to Multan has secured second position in the world in the ‘business information management’ paper of the Institute of Chartered Certified Accountants of the United Kingdom.

According to a result notification of the ICCA, Aamer Sikander scored highest marks in Pakistan and stood second in the world in the BIM paper. Mr Aamer had also got distinction last year in the papers of financial control and information technology conducted by the same institute.
